If your file is smaller than 1920x1080 or 1080x1920, it is highly recommended that you obtain a larger version from your image source. This may mean that a higher resolution image from the original image creation or editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, or others needs to be exported.
Another option for a small image, or a PNG image with transparency, may be pasting your image onto a properly sized solid background. This can be done in the Paint program.
An easy way to tell if a .PNG has transparency or not is to hover your cursor over it in the File Explorer. If you see the background change behind your image, it has transparency.

Example if image WITHOUT transparency (solid background):

- Open Paint.
This can be done by clicking the Windows icon in the bottom left corner of the screen, then searching for Paint at the top of the menu that appears. Paint also may be a pinned app. - Once in Paint, click the Resize and Skew icon in the Image section in the top left corner of the screen.
- In the Resize and Skew window, select the circle next to Pixels. Click the unlink button between the Horizontal and Vertical dimensions. Type the dimensions you want your image to be. This will be 1920x1080 for landscape screens and 1080x1920 for portrait screens. Then click OK.
- You now have a properly sized canvas. From here, import your small image, or .PNG with transparency.
Click File in the top left corner of the screen, click Import to Canvas, then click From a file. - Locate your image, and click Open.
- Click and drag the image to where you want it on the canvas. Press Enter or click the background canvas to unselect the image.
- If your image already has a solid background color, pick this color up with the Eyedropper tool. Click on the Eyedropper icon in the Tools section and then on your image background color.
If your image doesn't have a background color, or if you would like to choose a new one. Select a color from the palette in the Colors section, or open the Color wheel menu to choose a custom color. - Click the Paint Bucket icon in the Tools section, and click on the white canvas background to change it to your selected color.
- To save your new image, in the top left of the window, click File, then Save As, then PNG picture or JPEG picture.
- Name your image as desired. Make sure next to Save as type: that it is saving as a .PNG or .JPG. Then click Save.
