AV systems are controlled by apps on the VE and AV iPads. The VE iPads are stored in the Prop Closet on the first floor, which requires the AB1 Key to open.
The apps are:
Q-SYS UCI: Controls audio, reboots and powers on/off TVs and projectors.
OOH_SC: Controls the video content displaying in One Ocean Hall.
Paradigm: Controls lighting throughout the building.
Audio
Ocean Pavilion AV Systems must be powered on for audio to work.
Video signals can still be powered on without pressing start of day.
Startup/Shutdown:
- Open the Q-SYS UCI app.
- Log into the appropriate profile.
- From the main menu, select System Power.
- Select System On Start of Day.
- At the end of the day, once systems are no longer in use, select System Shutdown End of Day to power off the systems.
Microphones:
To adjust microphone volume and mute/unmute:
- Select One Ocean Hall on the main menu.
- In the Audio Mixer, use the + and - buttons to adjust the volume. Press Mics Mute to Mute/Unmute. Dark red is unmuted and bright red is muted.
The Mics control effects the volume of both the handheld and beltpack microphones. Only the microphones labeled with the blue One Ocean Hall label will work in One Ocean Hall. These microphones are located in the VE Prop Closet on the first floor of the Ocean Pavilion. You will need an AB1 key to open the door.
There is a belt pack microphone and a handheld microphone assigned to each channel (Mic 1 and Mic 2). You can only use 1 mic per channel, so either the belt pack or handheld must be chosen.
Wall Input:
Occasionally, such as for third party events, an external audio source may need to be plugged in, or audio from the space may need to be recorded.
In the Northwest corner of One Ocean Hall, to the left of the clownfish tank by the door to the back of house hallway there is a wall plate with inputs and outputs for One Ocean Hall.
To adjust volume and mute/unmute:
- Select One Ocean Hall on the main menu.
- In the Audio Mixer, use the + and - buttons to adjust the volume. Press Mics Mute to Mute/Unmute. Dark red is unmuted and bright red is muted.
All inputs (Input 1, Input 2, and Line Input) are all adjusted by the one Wall Input control.
If recording video or audio from OOH is desired, an 1/8" cable can be plugged into the LINE OUTPUT port and into an audio interface or camera.
The volume of the video projection content can only be controlled in the Projection App (see below).
Music:
(events only)
Music can be played in two ways, through the Wall Input (see above) or through the Soundtrack Your Brand Player, which does not require a device to be plugged in.
Legal notice:
For official aquarium events, music must be played through the Soundtrack Player. A third party event client may play music from their own device, as they are assuming legal responsibility for the copyright.
Instructions for use of the Soundtrack Player here: https://helpdesk.seattleaquarium.org/a/solutions/articles/11000137314
Presenter Lighting and Shades:
Presenter Lighting and Shades are currently not available.
Video
Ocean Story BrightSign
This BrightSign can be muted during talks, and unmuted afterwards. If the BrightSign is not displaying correctly, or is not displaying at all, try rebooting it with the reboot button. It may take a minute or so to fully reboot.
One Ocean Hall Projection
The projection is controlled by the OOH_SC app (lionfish icon), on the VE and AV iPads.
Ambient:
There are 3 ambient loops to choose from. All of these have an ambient audio track, and will loop indefinitely.
Volume can be adjusted by clicking the Slider icon in the top right, and pressing the + and - buttons. Press the Speaker icon to mute/unmute.
Narrative:
Narratives are playlists of alternating non-looping and looping videos.
- To start a narrative, select the narrative and tap on the first video in the playlist.
- To go to the next video, tap Advance in the bottom right corner. Videos that are not loops (they will have a time instead of an infinity symbol under the name) will advance to the next video automatically. Loops must be advanced to go to the next video.
Projector Power
If projectors are malfunctioning, they can be powered off. Main reasons to power off the projectors would be: floor projection is shaking and causing motion sickness, projectors are malfunctioning and projecting into exhibits, event requests projection to be off.
-
From the main page, select System Controls.
- On System Controls, under Power, select OOH projectors.
- Press the power button on the projectors you want to turn on or off. Bright red is on, and dark red is off.
When powering back on, projectors will beep. It may take a minute for the projector to fully power on and display the media.
Fish ID
There is one Fish ID touchscreen just outside of One Ocean Hall. If this screen is off or otherwise malfunctioning, it can be rebooted.
- From the Main Page, select System Controls.
- Select Fish ID Reboot.
- Select Archipelago Level 1.
- Press Reboot #9.
If the screen is still off or malfunctioning, please submit an AV ticket describing the issue: https://helpdesk.seattleaquarium.org/support/tickets/new.
Lighting
Lighting is controlled in the Paradigm app. There are passcodes for the AV, Life Sciences, Events, and Custodial/Facilities departments. If you are in one of these departments, contact your supervisor for your department's pin.
Lighting in OOH shouldn't need to be adjusted with this app on a consistent basis.
This is the daily Paradigm lighting schedule:
Note that all areas are not at 'building open' levels of lighting until 9 AM, and the whole building enters 'Night mode' (unless overridden) at 8 PM. At 5 AM every day, all overrides are cleared, and the building returns to normal operation.
If lights are not following this schedule, you will need to re-enable Timed Events.
- When you open Paradigm, it will list 4 options. Press the arrow to the right of any option to log in.
- Log into Paradigm with your department's PIN.
- Select Events (depending on your department, you may see more options than pictured).
- On the Overall tab, select TE Re-enable (Auto @5am) in the bottom left corner.
To adjust lights specific to One Ocean Hall:
- Select Events (depending on your department, you may see more options than pictured).
Under Overall, there are three OOH toggles Open Aream Perimeter, and Lobby Ramps. When these are pressed (test and find out)
- Under the Dry Exhibit tab you can select One Ocean Hall Peri. TOGGLE to toggle the lights around the perimeter of the hall on and off.
